The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started an investigation into the massive properties owned by Sheikh Rehana’s family in Gazipur.

This includes four lavish bungalows, including one called ‍‍`Tulip’s Territory.‍‍`

The family members under scrutiny include Sheikh Rehana, the younger sister of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her husband Shafique Siddique, their daughter Tulip Siddique, as well as Azmina Siddique, her brother-in-law Tariq Siddique, his wife Shahin Siddique, and their daughter Bushra Siddique.

But after the public protest on August 5, these once-glamorous properties now show signs of damage, with signs of vandalism and fire.

Located in the Kanaiya area of Gazipur City Corporation, ‍‍`Tulip’s Territory‍‍` is mainly linked to Shafique Ahmed Siddique, Sheikh Rehana’s husband, and the father of Tulip Siddique, Azmeri Siddique, and Bobby Siddique.

The sprawling estate spans 30 bighas and features a large pond, stone steps, and several bungalows, one of which is a luxurious duplex.

Sheikh Rehana’s family used to visit the property in the winter, and law enforcement officers would frequently be seen in the area.

However, the property is now abandoned.

One of the workers at the property said,

“There are four of us here, including a guard. The rest of us work in the garden. We get our monthly salary, and we send them whatever vegetables we grow every week. The sahib used to visit, but he doesn‍‍`t anymore because the road has become too bad.”

After the public protest on August 5, angry protesters attacked the property, leaving it in ruins.

Locals shared that the garden house initially started on three bighas of disputed land, but over time, it expanded to over 30 bighas.

A local resident said,

“This land is disputed. When the Awami League government came to power, Mr. Shafique bought it and later expanded it into a garden house.”

Dr. Shafique Siddique’s name also appears on the electricity bill for the property.

Apart from this, Sheikh Rehana and her family own other properties, including a garden house in Mauchake, a bungalow in Fawkal, and a garden house in Bangalgach belonging to her brother-in-law, Rafiq Siddique.

The ACC is now trying to trace the sources of the wealth behind these properties in Gazipur.

The district commissioner has mentioned that officials from the revenue department are currently looking into the matter.

Gazipur District Commissioner Nafisa Arefin said,

“I will first receive the report. Once the revenue section’s report comes in, I will be able to provide further information.”

Tulip’s Territory is located about 15 kilometers away from Joydebpur.

Locals have accused the family of using their political power to amass these properties.
